WBO interim bantamweight world titlist Eric Morel has withdrawn from his July 17 mandatory title bout with WBO and WBC titlist Fernando Montiel in Mexico. Top Rank's Carl Moretti informed ESPN's Dan Rafael that Morel withdrew on Saturday citing a leg injury, and will be replaced by Rafael Concepcion (14-4-1, 8 KOs).

Montiel-Concepcion will still take place in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico, and will be televised on the "Top Rank Live" series on Fox Sports Español as the headliner.

"Morel adviser Gabriel Peñagarícano told Top Rank in an e-mail Saturday morning that Morel's father, Cirilo, told him that Eric Morel had sustained an unidentified injury and would be unable to train for a month. Top Rank wasn't buying it," Rafael wrote.

It was earlier reported that according to the terms of the contract, Montiel was to receive 80-percent of the purse and Morel the remaining 20. Since the fight went to a purse bid held by the WBO, the organization for which the two would have been fighting for the absolute title, the total purse was won by Top Rank who gave a bid of $102,500. Morel in the past weeks had voiced his displeasure with his portion of the purse.

"Morel made a massive miscalculation. He had been offered $115,000 by Top Rank to face interim junior bantamweight titlist Nonito Donaire in Puerto Rico on Saturday night, but declined, believing the Montiel fight would be worth more," Rafael wrote.
