By José Santana Jr. Jose "Carita" Lopez is set to make his first defense of his WBO super flyweight title against Marvin Sonsona of the Phillipines September 4th at the Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada. The young and dangerous Sonsona carries a record of 13-0, 12KOs. Lopez, of Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico has a record of 38-7-2, 32KOs. Lopez's promoter Ivan Rivera of PR Best Boxing said, "It's a good fight for 'Carita' since we all know of his quality and since he has fought everywhere and always looked good. Even more, this time he doesn't have to go to his opponents house since this will be at a neutral site. Carita has already signed and is preparing for this fight with all intentions to win with his experience even though he is going up against an opponent who is young and powerful. - NotiFight ### According to PrimeraHora.com a rematch between WBO Jr. Flyweight titlist and Ring Magazine Champion Ivan Calderon and Filipino Rodel Mayol looks to be possible for September 12th in Puerto Rico. The first fight between the two ended in a tecnical draw after a headbutt opened up a cut on the forehead of Calderon. Calderon's promoter Ivan Rivera said, "Mayol has no problems coming to Puerto Rico to fight so the only thing we have to work out is the economic aspect." Rivera also added that part of the card would be WBO featherweight titlist Roman "Rocky" Martinez also of Puerto Rico. ### Accoriding to Carlos Gonzalez of PrimeraHora.com Eric Morel has suffered an injury to his ankle while running. Morel who is preparing for his October 10th WBO bantamweight title fight with champion Fernando Montiel said that the injury should take a couple of weeks to heal with rest. The fight does not appear to need to be post-poned any further. The fight was origianlly scheduled to take place June 27th but was post-poned when Montiel suffered his own injury. Said Cirilo Morel, father of Eric, "Eric hurt his ankle but I don't have any doubts that he will be ready to fight with Montiel. If it has to be with one leg, we will fight him and will come back to Puerto Rico with the tiltle in our hands." ### While rumors float that a possible Huberto "Zorrita" Soto vs. Edwin Valero clash may take place on the Cotto-Pacquiao undercard, it all seems to be dependent on an apparent WBC super featherweight title defense for Soto on September 15th. Antonio Lozada, representative of Soto stated to NotiFight that there are three possibilities for an opponent for Soto. Thos include, Colombian Aristides Perez, Brazilian Rogelio Ferreria, and a Peruvian whose name he could not remember. A November 14th date to face Valero has also been proposed to Lozada which they are still negotiating. Said Soto, "I would love to face Valero, but as of right now it's just speculation. I am focused on my defense for the Mexican Independence Day which could take place in Oaxaca, Puebla, or Chiapas. ### Former IBF Jr. Flyweight titltist Ulises "Archie" Solis has declared to ESTO that he will be back this year and become a wolrd champion once again. Solis stated, "Brian Viloria will have to come back to Guadalajara to give me a rematch and I will beat him." Viloria defeated Solis by KO last April 19th in 11 rounds. It was the 9th title defense for Solis and took place in the Phillipines. ### WBA super flyweight titlist Nobuo Nashiro is going to be defending his title against former Ring Jr. Flyweight champion Hugo Cazares September 30th in Osaka, Japan. It will be the second defense of the title which he won in 2008. Nashiro said to Japanese media, "It will be a combat of short exchanges on the inside and of course I am going to be looking for the knockout." - NotiFight ### BHO would like to deliver a special RIP to Colombian contender William Morelos, 26, who was assasinated in Colombia on Monday. Morelos, lightweight & super lightweight, had a record of 26-7-1, 19KOs. Also, a RIP goes out to Francisco "Pancho" Mocivais who also passed away Saturday due to punches received in his fight against Bobby O'Bannon the night before at the Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis, Missouri. Moncivais, 21, had a record of 1-1 and had lost the fight to O'Bannon by 4th round KO. He was taken to Gulfport Memorial hospital afterwards. - NotiFight
