Martinez to defend at 160
Word is that WBC 160-pound and 154-pound titlist Sergio Martinez plans to maintain his status as middleweight (160) champion and drop his junior middleweight crown. The WBC previously informed him, that due to organization rules, he had to come to a decision to which division he would stay and defend his title in. As part of his decision to stay at 160, Martinez is now required to defend against the No. 1 challenger Sebastian Zbik (29-0, 10 KOs), who hold the interim title. Martinez was also recently stripped of his WBO 160-pound crown because he did not inform the organization if he would hold onto and defend their version of the championship in ample time to their unfair liking.
