Former light flyweight and current WBA super flyweight world titlist Hugo Cazares stopped Everardo Morales Saturday to retain his title in his first defense. He knocked Morales down with a left hook in the seventh round and the fight was called to a halt by the referee who deemed Morales unable to continue.

This Saturday in Stuttgart the motto will be “First the World Cup, than the Boxing World Cup.” Saturday’s “Universum Champons Night” event at the Porsche Arena will be a world title twinbill. Former world champion and local favorite Firat Arslan (29-4-1, 18 KOs) takes on Steve Herelius (19-1-1, 11 KOs) for the WBA interim world championship and unbeaten WBC/WIBF/WBO female featherweight champion Ina Menzer (26-0, 10 KOs) meets Jeannine Garside (9-3-1, 4 KOs), who is considered by one ratings group to be better than Menzer, a situation Menzer intends to correct. Here’s what they had to say at today’s press conference at the Cinemaxx.
